PCL Surgery
in Dubai
The posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) is the strongest ligament in the knee, preventing the tibia from moving backwards relative to the femur. PCL injuries are less common than ACL tears but can cause significant instability — particularly in combined ligament injuries — and require careful assessment to determine whether surgery is needed.
Assessment & Treatment
Dr. Haidar's approach to PCL injuries starts with a thorough clinical examination and MRI assessment to grade the injury and identify any associated damage to the posterolateral corner, menisci, or other ligaments. Isolated grade I and II tears are typically managed non-operatively with physiotherapy and a rehabilitation programme.
When surgery is indicated — for complete tears or combined ligament injuries — PCL reconstruction is performed arthroscopically using a tendon graft. The goal is to restore the normal posterior stability of the knee and allow return to sport and daily activities.
Dr. Haidar trained in complex knee ligament surgery at the Centre Santy–FIFA Medical Center in Lyon, where he was exposed to high-volume sports knee surgery including PCL and multi-ligament reconstructions.
