Meniscus Repair
Surgery in Dubai
The menisci are two C-shaped cartilage pads that act as shock absorbers and stabilisers in the knee. Tears are among the most common knee injuries, occurring in both athletes and non-athletes. Treatment depends on the type, location, and size of the tear — and whether the tissue can be repaired or needs to be partially removed.
Repair vs. Removal
Dr. Haidar's philosophy is to preserve as much meniscal tissue as possible. Repair is preferred when the tear is in the outer vascular zone, where blood supply supports healing. All-inside arthroscopic repair techniques allow the torn edges to be sutured together through small keyhole incisions with no large wounds.
When repair is not feasible — for complex, degenerative, or avascular zone tears — a partial meniscectomy removes only the unstable fragment, leaving as much healthy tissue as possible.
Both procedures are performed arthroscopically as day-case surgery at Emirates Hospital. Dr. Haidar also addresses meniscal ramp lesions — a frequently missed posterior tear associated with ACL injuries — at the time of ACL reconstruction.
